The Easiest Escape Room Ever

Posted by mazeguy - 7 hours ago

You awake to find yourself in a strange room. There is a painting on the wall, and you feel compelled to take a closer look. After admiring the picture, you try to leave, only to discover the door is locked. How will you escape from this place?!

Just as you’re about to lose hope, you notice a key sitting on a pedestal. You take the key, slip it into the lock, fling the door open and rush to freedom!

Okay, so my first escape room isn’t that exciting, but it wasn’t meant to be. Programming was never my strong suit, so I needed to figure out how these point and click games work. Player navigation, inventory management, interacting with the environment, changing cursors, using items… all the tropes of classic escape rooms.

My test room helped me learn about all of these concepts, so I think I’m ready for a serious attempt. I’ve been sketching out a few ideas, and hope to have a real escape room finished by October 25th. It would be a neat way to celebrate the 22nd anniversary of my web site.

In the meantime, you can escape from the test room if you’d like. It’s very short, but if you find a bug I’ve missed, please let me know. You can find it here: https://mazeguy.net/escape/
